The band About The White was formed at the beginning of 2018, by an initiative of three friends: Luca Praino (vocals and rhythm guitar), Stefano Ermini (bass guitars and backing vocals) e Davide D’Appollonio (lead guitars). The three of them share the same, strong passion on international music, showing a great interest for alternative music of bands as Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and R.E.M. to post-punk/new wave of The Cure and Joy Division and art rock of David Bowie, reaching the nowadays-music of artists as Arctic Monkeys, Jack White, Queens of The Stone Age, John Butler Trio and Rival Sons.
Since the very beginning, ATW’s target is to fully focus on original and unreleased music, due to the strong composing approach of the three members, who alternate themselves in the writing of lyrics and music.
After lots of live dates as headliners on several stages, at the beginning of 2019 they decided, with this lineup, to record their first EP titled “Behind The Light – The Dawn”.
The EP will be released and distributed in Italy under the label Seahorse Recordings as of November 29th 2019 and is composed out of five previously unreleased songs plus a cover. Musical influences of the band are strongly included within the full length of the record.

The opening track of the record is “Chris”, an open-hearted letter to Soundgarden and Audioslave’s leader Chris Cornell. The riff, as well as the full track, is a clear recall to the dirty sound of early 90’s Seattle scene. The aggressive mood of the band moves on with the following track, “Move, Don’t Move”, showing a distorted sound and more ironic-driven lyrics on the emotional feelings of love relationships.
The third track is the only low-tempo included into the EP. “Keep Standing Proud” incorporates a darker approach on both lyrics and music. “Keep Standing Proud” anticipates the first single of the band, titled “Leave”, where About The White comes back to a more abrasive sound not hiding a more melodic approach, which gives space to decadent lyrics on the human need to react in facing critical loses.
After the double-face cover “Bohemian Like You / Jumpin’ Jack Flash” by The Dandy Warhols and Rolling Stones, reshaped with a more alternative approach, the closing track of the record is “Insane/The End”, a picture of the apathy and immobility of the human kind.
The EP perfectly merges the strong points of this lineup, from the powerful and baritone voice by Luca, to Stefano’s pulsing bass lines full of overdrive, chorus e flanger and the greatly painted guitar’s notes by Davide.
The band, after EP’s recordings, completes the lineup with Giorgio Marini on the drums. Giorgio immediately integrates himself with the rest of the band, playing in a straight and precise way.
About The White includes these tracks, together with brand-new tracks, into the tracklists of their live dates.
They are currently working on the writing of the new tracks.
Gli About The White nascono a Latina nel gennaio 2018 da un’iniziativa di tre amici: Luca Praino (cantante e chitarrista), Stefano Ermini (bassista e backing vocals) e Davide D’Appollonio (chitarrista). I tre condividono la stessa passione per la musica internazionale, spaziando dall’alternative di gruppi come Pearl Jam, Soundgarden e R.E.M. alla post-punk/new wave di The Cure e Joy Division ed art rock di David Bowie fino ad arrivare ad una scena più contemporanea ispirandosi ad artisti come Arctic Monkeys, Jack White, Queens of The Stone Age, John Butler Trio e Rival Sons.
Sin dall’inizio, l’obiettivo è di focalizzarsi sulla musica inedita, data la vena compositiva molto forte dei tre, che si alternano nella scrittura di testi e musiche.
Dopo una serie di live come headliner su diversi palchi del territorio, con questa lineup, gli About The White entrano in studio ad inizio 2019 per registrare il primo EP della band dal titolo “Behind The Light – The Dawn”.
L’EP uscirà e verrà distribuito a livello nazionale sotto etichetta Seahorse Recordings a partire dal 29 Novembre 2019 e conterrà cinque tracce inedite ed una cover. Le influenze delle band di riferimento si fanno sentire nell’intera durata dell’EP.

Il disco si apre con la graffiante Chris, una dedica a cuore aperto della band al cantante di Soundgarden ed Audioslave Chris Cornell. Il riff di apertura e l’intera traccia sono un chiaro richiamo al sound ruvido della Seattle anni 90’. Il mood aggressivo della band si ritrova anche nella traccia successiva “Move, Don’t Move”, con sonorità sporche ed un testo molto più ironico e concentrato sull’alternarsi emotivo dei rapporti di coppia.
La terza traccia è l’unica ballad compresa nell’EP. “Keep Standing Proud” presenta delle atmosfere più dark sia a livello musicale che a livello di testo. “Keep Standing Proud” fa da apripista a “Leave”, il primo singolo degli About The White, dove si torna ad un sound più abrasivo pur strizzando l’occhio alla melodia, che fa da tappeto ad un testo decadente che parla della necessità di reagire di fronte a perdite importanti.
Dopo la cover a due strati “Bohemian Like You / Jumpin’ Jack Flash” di The Dandy Warhols e Rolling Stones, rivisitata in chiave più alternativa, l’EP si avvia alla chiusura con la traccia “Insane/The End”, fotografia in musica di apatia ed immobilismo del genere umano.
L’EP mescola perfettamente i punti di forza dei tre, dalla voce potente e baritonale di Luca alle linee di basso pulsanti ed intrise di overdrive, chorus e flanger di Stefano fino ad arrivare ai ricami chitarristici di Davide.
Ai tre, dopo la registrazione dell’EP, si aggiunge Giorgio Marini alla batteria. Giorgio si amalgama alla perfezione con il resto del gruppo, con il suo suonare molto diretto e preciso.
Gli About The White portano i pezzi dell’EP, insieme ad altri inediti, nelle diverse date dal vivo. Attualmente stanno lavorando alla scrittura di nuovo materiale.
