\u201cI Want You To Know \u00e8 la confessione e ritrattazione, pi\u00f9 apatica che rassegnata, di un precario a vita, prigioniero di s\u00e9 stesso e della propria routine inconcludente, disilluso eppure disposto a concedersi il lusso della speranza che qualcosa possa ancora cambiare. Ma in un\u2019attesa immobile. \u00c8 anche la presa d\u2019atto della sostanziale difficolt\u00e0 nel dichiarare la propria condizione alla persona cui immagina di rivolgersi, tanto da sollevare il dubbio che questa confessione possa essere mai resa a voce alta\u201d, dichiara la band.

Gli SMOKING ROGERS elaborano la propria sonorit\u00e0 senza luminosi artifici preferendo sottolineare una nota e accompagnare una strofa con il lavoro artigianale dei loro strumenti, cercando la perfetta combinazione tra pulizia e distorsione, accordi e rumore, studio e improvvisazione.
Il concept dell\u2019album si fonda sull\u2019analisi della difficolt\u00e0 ad essere accettati nella scoperta della propria identit\u00e0\u0300, e di uscire da quella \u201czona franca\u201d in cui ci si chiude per difenderla dagli strali di un mondo culturale sempre pi\u00f9\u0300 fondato sulla vacuit\u00e0\u0300 dell\u2019apparire e dell\u2019essere mainstream piuttosto che veri. Si passa da canzoni profondamente intime (\u201cThovez House\u201d, \u201cI Want you to Know\u201d) a veri e propri brani anni Novanta (\u201cOne Division Left\u201d, \u201cSpiritual Song\u201d), da ballate elettroacustiche (\u201cPascal-On Stage\u201d) a sonorit\u00e0 decisamente pi\u00f9 leggere (\u201c70\u2019s\u201d, \u201cThe Butterflies, Daybreak\u201d), fino al climax noir di \u201cI\u2019ve got Your Eyes\u201d che chiude a chiave la porta blindata della comfort zone.

Se fossero stati negli Stati Uniti trent\u2019anni fa con ogni probabilit\u00e0 gli SMOKING ROGERS avrebbero spontaneamente fatto parte della scena grunge di Seattle, ma sebbene sia chiara questa seminale influenza, l\u2019identit\u00e0 della band \u00e8 anche molto altro: una potente vena hard rock riconducibile alla scena di Los Angeles di fine anni Ottanta, chitarre fortemente legate alla cultura punk e una naturale tendenza al cantautorato acustico.
La propensione della band alle dissonanze e ai riff taglienti non impedisce comunque loro di esplorare diverse sonorit\u00e0 e generi, sempre lasciandosi guidare dal proprio istinto.

“I Want You To Know” is the confession and retraction, more apathetic than resigned, of a lifelong temp, a prisoner of himself and his own inconclusive routine, disillusioned yet willing to allow himself the luxury of hope that something might still change. But in an immobile wait. It is also the acknowledgement of the substantial difficulty in declaring his condition to the person to whom he imagines to turn. So much so that it raises the doubt that this confession can ever be made out loud”, declares the band.

“Comfort Zone” was produced and recorded by Maurizio Lollobrigida and mixed and mastered by Maurizio Lollobrigida and Alessandro Scerpa at Officine Zero\/Il Merlo Studio in Rome.
SMOKING ROGERS elaborate their sound without bright artifices, preferring to underline a note and accompany a verse with the craftsmanship of their instruments, seeking the perfect combination of cleanliness and distortion, chords and noise, study and improvisation.
The concept of the album is based on the analysis of the difficulty of being accepted in the discovery of one’s own identity, and of coming out of that “free zone” in which we close ourselves. We want to defend it from the arrows of a cultural world increasingly based on the emptiness of appearing and being mainstream rather than real.
The album ranges from deeply intimate songs (“Thovez House”, “I Want You to Know”) to actual 90s tunes (“One Division Left”, “Spiritual Song”), from electro-acoustic ballads (“Pascal-On Stage”) to decidedly lighter sounds (“70’s”, “The Butterflies, Daybreak”), all the way to the noir climax of “I’ve Got Your Eyes”, which locks the door of the comfort zone.

If they had been in the United States 30 years ago, SMOKING ROGERS would most likely have spontaneously become part of the Seattle grunge scene. But although this seminal influence is clear, the band’s identity is also much more: a powerful hard rock vein that can be traced back to the Los Angeles scene of the late ’80s, guitars strongly linked to punk culture and a natural tendency towards acoustic songwriting.
The band’s propensity for dissonance and sharp riffs does not prevent them from exploring different sounds and genres, always guided by their own instincts.
